Need Setup Help for New HT System

I need some help setting up my bedroom HT system. I have an Onkyo TX-SR605B, 46" Sony KDL46V25LI, Oppo DV-981HD and a Direct HD Sat box. I have everything connected with HDMI cables. Both the Sat and DVD are connected to the receiver with HDMI, Sat input #1 and DVD input #2 with monitor set to HDMI out. I don't see anything on the monitor, I've been through the owners manual a couple of times but I don't see anything about assigning the HDMI input on the TV itself. I've just got to the stage to start the speaker set up but get nothing on the TV.
Thanks

This is pretty fundamental. Look at the remote for your TV. There should be a button marked "Input".

Push it.

They flutter behind you, your possible pasts.
Some bright-eyed and crazy, some frightened and lost.

Re: Need Setup Help for New HT System

Depending upon your equipment, you might have to tell the DVD player or the DirectTV box to use the HDMI output. This sometimes disables the other outputs.

Do this:

- Plug the DVD player into the HDMI input on the TV
- Turn on the TV and set it to see the HDMI input

You may still not see anything. Try hooking up a SVideo cable between the TV and the DVD player. Use the DVD player menu to see if you have to enable the HDMI output.

Play with this setup until you get the DVD picture on the HDMI output.

THEN: Connect the receiver in between the DVD player and the TV. Now you may have to fiddle with the receiver menu and Input knob, but you know the DVD player is outputting on the HDMI and the TV in looking for the HDMI.

Then, hook in the DirectTV box to the receiver and using the receiver menu to switch inputs. Play with the DirectTV menus (again you may have to use SVideo to see things) until you get the HDMI output working.

Re: Need Setup Help for New HT System

DUH, I figured it out. As it turns out, their are numbers on all the video inputs on the back of the TV, HDMI inputs are numbered 6 and 7. Since I'm using the TV as a monitor I have it connected to 6. Go to video input 6 and guess what, their it is.
Thanks for all the help.
