widescreen tv question

i have a widescreen tv but no hd adaptor or anything. i receive cable from a sattelite through direct tv. are all the channels i get presented in 4:3 or are any anamorphic widescreen. i mainly use it for watching my anamorphic dvds but if there were any anamorphic channels in standard definition that would be nice.

Jay,

Standard Definition is 4:3, High Definition is 16:9. There are no widescreen SD channels, though there are a few that are letterboxed.

Wrong. Once every two or three years, A&E will re-run a special on Circ de Soile (spelling?). It is presented in anamorphic widescreen. It is the ONLY time the widescreen setting on DirecTV standard definition receivers will work correctly.

I apologize. Once, every third blue moon, when you are standing on a chair made of soap, there will be a program in anamorphic widescreen on standard definition.
