Maybe you could decrypt your request.

I think you may be looking for "Multi-Zone" or "Multi-Room" feature. So you can drive speakers on the back patio or in the other room?

Many of the mid-range receivers have this. You can also buy out-board speaker selector box's to switch between A or B speakers.

Re: DVD/Reciever or HTIB with built in speaker selector??

Sorry for being unclear. Basically i'm looking for a DVD+Receiver Home theater system that has a built in speaker selector ( the A/B button). My thinking is I'll have my surround sound speakers for DVDs on one mode, and a set of tower speakers on another for CD's/Ipod. The selling point for me though is one box/remote, trying to keep it very simple. Has anyone ever seen a unit with these features? If my thinking is all screwy please correct me. I'm not extremely knowledgeable about this business.

I'm not sure what's being asked either; but if it's the multi-room function, every Onkyo I've seen has an A/B switch. (Although I believe the B speakers ususally only drive stereo with the sub.)

I haven't even seen the high-end Meridian or Arcam DVD receivers have that feature. My guess is there are none. I'll bet you need to do separate receiver/dvd player HTiB like the Onkyos have.

If I understand you correctly, you want to use the surround speakers for DVDs and surround material only, and just the L/R for music. Easy. Every surround receiver has that feature. You simply choose a "Stereo" mode for music and a surround mode for surround material. When you play music, only the two front speakers will operate, and possibly the sub, if you have one, but that also depends on how the system is configured.

What I understand is that he wants a 5.1 set for DVD's and a couple of towers right next to the front speakers for music.
