SPDIF Dolby Digital Audio issue

I have a Magnavox MF337MFB 37 inch LCD TV with a SPDIF digital coaxial audio output and am having a strange issue.

I have it connected to a Pioneer VSX515 which has Dolby 5.1 surround capability. I frequently watch DVDs in surround without any problems.

Here is the problem I'm having with audio from the TV. I have a digial coaxial cable with RCA plugs on each end running from the TV to a digital coax input on the receiver and have issues with the audio cutting out on digital channels only. Whenever I watch digital channels off air or off cable using the TVs digital tuner, the audio frequently cuts out. It doesn't matter if the program is in HD or SD, widescreen, 4:3, etc., stereo, or the like, the audio cuts out on digital channels. There is no static, the the audio cuts out like it has been muted and unmuted very quickly. The audio from these channels shows as Dolby Digital on the receiver.

However, if I watch analog channels, cable or off air, the audio doesn't cut out at all. The audio from these channels doesn't show as Dolby Digital. I was first thinking cable, but if it were the digital coax, I would think it would cut out on the analog channels as well. I admit I'm new to working with digital TV, so someone correct me if I'm wrong on this point. I replaced the cable and the problem persists.

When I watch TV and just use the TVs attached speakers there is no cutting out of the audio at all either OTA, Cable, digital, or analog TV, so I have determined it's not the stations.

Any insight is appreciated.

Thanks.
