Home theater in a box, any suggestion?

Dear all,

I'm looking for a new home theater in a box, not more than $400.
Any suggestion, the pros and cons feedback would be very helpful.
Thank you in advance.

Re: Home theater in a box, any suggestion?

I recently purchased the Samsung HT-TX75 after some serious consideration. I didn't want any Sony system because they are more expensive.

The contentors were JVC, Panasonic, Philips and Samsung. Being not very technical, the main areas that I compared the different systems with was the output power. Samsung had 1200W total output, as with some of the brands listed above, but the TX75 also has 4 "tall-boy" speakers, which means I didn't have to mount the rear speakers to the ceiling.

I recommend the TX75 if your budget is less than $400. If you want to spend more, maybe a Onkyo system is a good pick. I read many good things about that when I did my research.

If you're in the US, Wal Mart has a Pioneer for $400, that isn't too bad.

Take a look at the Onkyo HT-SR790. $379 from ShopOnkyo.

http://shoponkyo.com/detail.cfm?prod...il=1&ext_war=1

It comes quite highly-recommended, as far as HTiBs go. I have the 894, and I am very happy with it; the speakers leave a bit to be desired, but so do all HTiB speakers. The receiver is the key piece; Onkyo makes very good entry-level receivers, and you can replace the speakers later when you have more money to spend.

I second this recomendation. A friend of mine just got this about a month ago and it's really pretty good. Another plus to this system is that you can upgrade individual components if you so choose.

Check Cruthfield "Scratch and Dent" also. Good price PLUS free shipping and no tax...unless you live in VA.
