Preparing to move out, need HT help
As the title advertises, I am looking to move out soon. I'm gonna more than likely end up in an apartment so something really bad *** is out of the question. :'-(
I'm set on a Samsung 50" plasma, so the TV itself is taken care of.
I'll need every componant for the set up minus the tv. I wanna get the best bang for my buck on a nice, reasonable set-up. I wanna go with a 5.1 system matched to (at least) mid-cost/performance speakers, good/great speakers if they are in a good price range.
What would you guys recommend as a good/great starter set up??
Thanks in advance for your imput!

Re: Preparing to move out, need HT help
For speakers, I'd look at these SVS speakers: http://www.svsound.com/products-sys.cfm
For a receiver and dvd player, check here to compare specs and features, and then find what you decide on, cheaper somewhere else:

Good luck!

Re: Preparing to move out, need HT help
Cool, Thanks guys.
Also, I have an Xbox 360 and I'm planning on getting the 360 HD DVD thing soon (instead of paying another 500-600 for an HD DVD player by itself) and my GF and I are waiting on the PS3 to go down in price so we can also have a BluRay DVD player as well. We're doing it this way as a way to get a dual use system. Why buy a BluRay player for 500-700 when you can have a BluRay player AND game system in one (besides the comfort of having a normal remote)?
Does anyone have any experiance with either of these and what are personal opinions of the two (without bashing the respective companies, just as a product review)?

Re: Preparing to move out, need HT help
Well, I thought I posted a reply, but I don't see it now. Oh well.
The HSU link was great. Those look perfect and the price doesn't seem too bad either. Now I just need to find a receiver.
I had posted something about using the HD DVD add-on for my X360 and getting a PS3 as a BluRay player (along with gaming, DUH!!) so those are taken care of for the time being.
Any suggestions on what I should look at or for in a receiver??

Re: Preparing to move out, need HT help
The thing about receivers is that you can get as little or as much as you want, depending on what you want to spend.
The Onkyo TX-SR605 seems to be very well-regarded. It has three component inputs, two HDMI inputs (with audio processing), 5 or so digital audio inputs, and I think it can upscale everything to HDMI (I have a 604, which upscales to component, so I know it can do at least that). It runs about $400 if you can find it in-stock.
That's a good starting point. By going with a cheaper model, you're going to get fewer inputs, HDMI pass-through (meaning you need to run a seperate audio cable to get audio from HDMI devices), or no HDMI at all. By going with a more expensive model, you can get more inputs and better audio quality.
I'm not sure I'd go cheaper than that with the number of HD devices you are looking to hook up; more expensive depends on what you're willing to spend...I'm sure others on this board know more about that than I do

Re: Preparing to move out, need HT help
I looked around at a few of the links and using them, went further in to the subject.
I am prolly gonna go all out on the receiver to start and save on the speakers. I'll add them over time. One way or another the TV is the first thing on my list.
I'm pretty much set on the Samsung 50" plasma, but recently, I've been hearing that they aren't that good. I don't know if it's just people talking out their ass or what. Something about they don't last long and the HD LCD's are "way better than plasma".
