Just starting out

So I'm just starting out with home theater and I'm looking for some advice on what system to get. There are so many options and I don't want to end up spending a bunch of cash on overpriced equipment (I was considering Bose until I read a few threads here), so I'm looking for the best possible system for my needs. I need a receiver and a set of speakers. I'm willing to buy whole packages or seperate components, whichever works out to be best.

-Room is approx 16' X 16'
-The TV I'll have is a 37" Sharp Aquos 1080p
-I'll need a minimum of 2 HDMI inputs for a ps3 and either a xbox 360 or a hddvd player. I believe the DVR from the cable company uses RGB cables, so I'll need a set of those inputs as well.
-I want at least a 5.1 system, and want the receiver to be 7.1 compatable so that I can add a couple more speakers later on
-I'd prefer towers for the 2 front and 2 rear channels, as I dislike speakers taking up real estate on top of other furniture. But this is flexible.
-Price range is up to about $1000, though I'm willing to go higher if it's really worth it. If there's a system for $1400 that is twice as good as one for $1000, I'm willing to shell out the extra cash.
-I don't need it to be very loud, I'm much more interested in real sharp, crisp, lifelike sounds. But it can't be a mouse..

So, if you know of any systems that fit these criteria, I'd love to hear about them. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Re: Just starting out

Here is a good receiver, that meets your requirements:

You can start looking here, for floor standing speakers:
http://www.crutchfield.com/S-ooBmcke...up.asp?g=12000
Then, you still need a center channel and subwoofer.

Or, you can get some excellent bookshelf speakers, like these:
http://www.svsound.com/products-sys-sbs_black.cfm
and put them on stands, like in the picture, so their footprint is like a floorstanding speaker. A big advantage to these, is that the sub comes with them, and SVS makes one of the best subs you can buy.
I don't think you're gonna find a whole system, that meets all your requirements, for the money you're talking about. Not a good system anyway. Of course, I could be wrong.............
Good luck!
