What is video upconversion?
The local audio shop suggests an A/V receiver with video upconversion (analog to HDMI). I'm not sure what this really means in terms of function. I understand that it means I can run a component video from my DVD player to the receiver, and then HDMI from the receiver to the HDTV, but will that really change the signal?
My DVD and HDTV have component in/out but not HDMI. The DVD will output progressive scan through the component outs.
The only reason I'd consider the upconversion feature is if there was some advantage in the future. I'd suppose that any new TV or DVD would have the HDMI outs.
The upconversion appears to be an expensive option.
Thanks for any input or suggestions!
