Toslink cable questions

I am currently in need of a 6' toslink cable to connect between my Denon 9200 DVD player and my Denon 5800 receiver. I never bought a toslink cable before. I searched on Ebay and there were tons of them for same. Mostly generic knockoffs.

How good a cable do I need? Would these $10 Ebay cables suffice for my purposes? Would I notice any differences between a $50 cable and an $8 cable in actual sound reproduction?

Does anyone have an online source for reasonably priced toslink cables?

Any help would be appreciated I know nothing of my fiber optic cable needs.

Re: Toslink cable questions

www.bluejeanscables.com - very highly recommended around here. I've bought from them several times and am very satisfied.

6 foot optical cable is 15.75.

Edited for atrocious spelling. Been a long day. (I think I spelled atrocious right)

Re: Toslink cable questions

There will be zero audio difference between these cables (as long as they are not damaged).

In truth - you can get a huge variation in the quality for an optical cable. Some are pure glass, cheaper ones have higher percentage of plastic, some come with steel around the glass to help protect it from bends/cracks.

But you are not doing scientific measurements through your cable. A inexpensive one is quite good at letting the blinking red light shine through. A more expensive/higher optical glass one will produce a brighter image (even visible just shining it on a piece of paper). But All of them will correctly pass the On-On-Off-Off-Off-On.... blinks.

BlueJeans is a good site. The owner is a member here and he is very good at keeping us happy. Highly recommended.
