Satellite & TV to Receiver Hookup Question

Connecting satellite and TV into receiver with one set of TV/SAT audio inputs

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My equipment: Sony STR-DE997 home theater receiver
Panasonic CT-27SC14MJ television
Hughes HIRD-E4 satellite receiver
Sony DVP-NS400D dvd

I need to know how to connect the audio outputs on my tv and satellite receiver into my home theater receiver. The problem, which probably has a simple solution, is that my Sony receiver has one set of audio inputs dedicated as TV/SAT. So, if I connect my satellite receiver into those inputs, how do I also connect my TV to the receiver? I am using my receiver to produce all sound (will not be using TV sound) and am using the TV strictly as a monitor. Have had it all connected and working in the past, but have moved it all to a different room and can't remember how it was originally connected. The receiver has other audio inputs, but none are dedicated for TV. Any ideas? Thanks!

Video from sat receiver to TV. Use the best connection possible.

Audio from sat receiver to HT receiver. Use the best connection possible.

You don't need to. Just connect the red/white audio cables from the Hughes to the Sony, though using the digital (optical) connection instead would be better. I use the digital connection between my avr and sat and the r/w cables between the sat and tv. The video (S-Video) goes from the sat to the tv. That way I can bypass the avr, if I wish. Looks like Robert beat me to it!

Re: Satellite & TV to Receiver Hookup Question

Thanks for the quick response. I think I'm just going to have to disconnect all cables and start over. I tried setting up audio from satellite to avr, and video from satellite to TV. Still no sound, so I obviously have something else hooked up wrong. Just out of curiosity, I am using component video cables from tv to avr (satellite doesn't have component video). The avr has always been set up so that if I select an input such as TV/Sat or DVD, each piece of needed equipment turns on. Satellite has S video and optical inputs, along with 2 sets of audio/video inputs (not sure which set to use). Could any of this potentially be causing my audio problems? TV is getting a great picture, so I believe the video connections are correct.

Re: Satellite & TV to Receiver Hookup Question

You may have to "assign" the audio inputs of your receiver. This tells the avr where to look for the audio when an input is selected. You'll have to read the manual on how to do this as the procedure is different for different makes.
