Component issues

Hi all

I'm running a Onkyo 701 amp which has 2 x component inputs and 1 x output (the output goes to a projector). Input 1 is used by a DVD player and input 2 is used by a HD digital receiver. I have recently installed a payTV receiver and would like help on how to connect it to the amp so i don't have to run a separate video line to the projector (component HD switch box etc).

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi Darren. Welcome to HTF!

I am afraid you are out of luck. You have 3 devices to switch, but your receiver only has 2 inputs. There is just no way to do this unless you run a separate video feed to the projector, or use an out-board switch.

My advice would be the external switch. Make sure to get one that is rated for HD-video signals and not just "component" video. You want 90 Mhz or more of bandwidth in the switch.

This would actually be good as that receiver is not rated for HD component video. The 50 Mhz bandwidth can handle progressive video (480p) but it's not great for the higher-frequencies of 720 or 1080 video.

Thanks for the help Bob. I thought a separate switch box might be the go but was hoping there would be an easy answer.

I'll shop around today to see what i can come up with and post the details.
