Noob has HDMI questions

Hi all,

Thanks for having me.

I need to know a few things about HDMI.

What is HDMI switching, and how does it differ from passthru?

If I want to run a everything (component dvd, analog vhs, and HD cable box) thru a receiver (like a JVC RXD412B) then only one cable, just a HDMI cable to the TV, will this work?

I want to take the speakers off my tv so that ALL audio must come from the receiver.

Thanks in advance for shedding some light os this issue that I have been trying to get a clear answer to for over a week now.

hdmi switching lets the receiver switch between different HD signals rather than switching inputs on your tv. basically you can run one hdmi cable from receiver to the tv and then hook up all your equipment to the receiver. the one you have mentioned does up convert signals to hdmi so it will work for what you want to do.

the audio will be handled by the receiver no problem

One more, please.

If I run just a HDMI cable to my receiver from my HD cable box, will the receiver process the audio, or will I need to run RCA's from the cable box to the receiver too?
I heard that HDMI passthru will not allow me to use just one cable, correct?
