Need help troubleshooting a buzzing rear channel

bear with me here...speaker in question is a Definitive Technology BP-8 bi-polar speaker.

I have a buzzing in my right rear surround channel at moderate to high volumes. It is only in my right rear. I checked all conections at the speaker, at the amplifier, and at my pre/pro. All connections seem fine.

I switched the input wires at the amp, and my left speaker does not buzz (signal from amp is clean), so I have isolated the problem to the right speaker.

The tweeter seems to be the driver making noise here. I removed the grill and both the front and rear tweeter are buzzing, not just one, so in my mind that seems to rule out a bad or blown driver...so working backwards it seems as though my crossover is damaged.

Does this seem like a reasonable diagnosis? Has anyone sucessfully repaired a crossover? It does not seem to have that many parts. I suppose I could get a new one from Def Tech, but if this is something I can repair that seems like the more economic solution.

Any thoughts? Any alternate diagnosis?

Thanks in advance...man its' been a long time since I posted here.

Re: Need help troubleshooting a buzzing rear channel

Hello John,

You switched the input connections at the amp: I suppose that means the inputs to the amp itself.
Did you also switch the speaker wires of left and right rears? You can do this at the amp itself, of course. If you already did this, I agree that it must be the driver. If you didn't: it can still also be the amp that's buzzing.

Re: Need help troubleshooting a buzzing rear channel

Thank you Cees, you were correct. Before I ordered a new crossover from Def Tech I decided to run the tests one more time and I reversed the speaker leads at the amp, and the buzzing indeed switched to the other side. Fortunately I have the service manual/schematic for my amplifier (Carver TFM-25) and will have it serviced here locally.
