Power Cord Too short
the power cord on my sharp aquos is too short to reach my power center since the tv is wall mounted. I need an extra 3 ft. to get to the power center. Do i need to use any kind of special extension cord for this???

Re: Power Cord Too short
Nope. Power is power. I'd recommend one at least four feet long, though. As you've already found out, power cords don't stretch!

Re: Power Cord Too short
Is it a detachable cord or is it attached to the device?

The end that plugs into the back of the TV is detachable... but the thing is, the TV is wall mounted with the cord going into the wall and coming out at the bottom, so I don't know how I would get a new one in there without having to take the TV off the bracket (I'm not sure how to do that without fear of not putting it back on properly!)
I went to home depot this morning and bought a 6 ft. extention cord (16 AWG). Will it be okay if I plug it into my power center and then plug the TV on the other end? (only the TV even though the extension cord has 3 sockets...)
thanks.

Re: Power Cord Too short
Ahh, that makes a difference. I would take a very close look at your warranty, as you may void it for your power center (at least any protection it provides to the TV) by using an extension cord from it to another device. Will it work? I'm sure it will, but if you ever have a problem, don't mention that extension cord...

Re: Power Cord Too short
Great thanks. I thought the same thing about warranty (anything happens.... don't mention or show the extension cord to the company).
I'll plug it in tonight when I get home and give it a shot... as long as it works and doesnt introduce any more noise in the PQ, I'll be satisfied...

Re: Power Cord Too short
There should be no reason it should introduce noise to the picture. Of course, if the power cord is running parallel and in close proximity to any speaker wires or sub cable, it can definitely introduce noise to them, extension cord or not.

Great, thank you. I will do my best to keep the wires separated.

Re: Power Cord Too short
The main point is, if speaker cables and power cords have to cross, which they almost always do, try to make it as close to a right angle as possible. Never wrap them together in any type of bundle.
