intermittent Blue screen on tv

I have a problem.....I frequently get blue screens....like the vcr menu blue screen....throughout the entire viewing of a dvd on my OLD tv. It is reproducable with several different dvd players including brand new ones out of the box that I returned because I thought it was a bad dvd player. some dvds play start to finish without the nusance blue screen others it pops up every min or so. while the blue screen appears the audio is still advancing.

I am running my dvd signal into the front of my vcr player with rca jacks and then a catv cable from the vcr to the tv.

My guess is its the vcr.....but it can be the tv too. but it cant be the dvd players.

I am totally stumped.

Try getting an RF modulator. Perhaps the problem is related to macrovison-- which technically the VCR is bound to respect.

Priced right or scrap the tv and go with new one?

Most people will say "buy a new TV." An RF modulator is around $25, but the image quality isn't so great compared with composite, to say nothing of component or hdmi.

OK thanks. I guess as an elec engineer, I am wondering why some dvds run perfectly and others dont.

The DVDs that run perfectly-- are they major studio releases?
