Digital Audio Coax
Hi, so i have a SDTV and the only audio out is a digital audio coax output. I am trying to send that signal to my receiver, Pioneer (VSX-D412), through the digital audio coax input. I have connected the TV output into the receiver input with a coax digital audio cable. I am however, unable to get sound from the tv to come out of the speakers out from the receiver. Is there a setting I am overlooking? I have also assigned my channel to where it reads TV on the receiver with digital instead of analog. Thanks!

Re: Digital Audio Coax
Hmmmm.............. I've never heard of a SDTV with a digital coax output.
Since it's a digital output, you may need to go into your tv's setup menus and set the audio output to digital.
Also, you'll probably have to go into the receiver's setup menus, and assign the digital audio input you used. It's different from the one that makes it say tv, in the receiver's panel.
Good luck!

Re: Digital Audio Coax
Hi, thanks for the response.
I have tried everything on the tv itself and it does not have an audio setup menu, just main, sap, mono.
Also, i have tried assigning the digital audio input to CD, VCR, TV, DVD and trying all of those to get sound out and nothing comes out. It is reading a digital connection instead of analog on the receiver but i still cant get anything to come out of the speakers.

Re: Digital Audio Coax
Double check that your Speaker A+B switch is right...............
Double check Mute button. Maybe it's stuck, in the Mute position, on remote?
Maybe your digital coax cable is bad?
I'm running out of ideas.......

Re: Digital Audio Coax
are you sure it isn't a mono analog output?
When you say it's a SDTV, do you mean that it's an old fashioned ntsc tv, or are you using sdtv in the proper sense-- a 480i atsc televison that can receive a digital signal?

Re: Digital Audio Coax
Who is the manufacturer and what is the model number for the TV?
The man I loved - the man who vanished - he never came back at all. But maybe he's still out there, somewhere. Maybe some day, when Gotham no longer needs Batman, I'll see him again.

Re: Digital Audio Coax
The tv sucks and was a gift but its made by Sylvania, model # 6427GFF.
I am also using SDTV in the proper sense that it is a 480i atsc television.
How do i double check that the A+B switch are correct?

Re: Digital Audio Coax
Two things come to mind. The first is that the coaxial jack on your receiver may be broken. This is easiily tested by connecting a DVD or CD player, and seeing if you get sound.
The second is that the digital audio output may only be active when the dtv tuner is used. My cheap hdtv is the same way.
I can find nothing about configuring the spdif for "pcm, dolby digital, or off" in the manual. You said that the audio choices were limited to "main, sap, mono." This is highly indicative of a ntsc tuner. (atsc tuners, in my limited experience, allow you to specify whether you'd like to listen to the english, french, or spanish stream.)

Re: Digital Audio Coax
For the A+B speakers, there should be a button on front of the receiver, for using the speakers hooked up to the "A" outputs, or the ones hooked up to the "B" outputs. I think most 5.1 speakers are hooked up as the "A" speakers. The "B" speakers are usually just for stereo.
A lot of folks don't use the "B" setting. If you are setup as "A" speakers, and some friend's kid pushes the "B" button, and nothing is hooked up to the "B" outputs, you'll have no sound.
It was just an after thought...............

Re: Digital Audio Coax
press dtv/tv on the remote.
Note that an antenna (not a cable service) must be connected to the ANT IN jack.
