Receiver setting for 6 ohms speakers

I hooked up a Yamaha HTIB (model YHT9505XM) which came with 5 speakers with an impedance of 6 ohms, and a receiver (model HTR5950) which has a setting for 6 ohms and another for 8 ohms.

My question is... should I set the receiver at 6 or 8? I've heard before that it's better to always leave the receiver at 8 -- even if your speakers are 6 or even 4 ohms -- can get better sound this way...

My receiver is in a well ventilated area -- I played a high tempo Cirque du Soleil DVD, and the receiver was not really hot afterwards..

Any thoughts?

Thanks in advance.

Best to set it to 6 ohm. There will be absolutely no degradation of the sound, and it could, possibly, even improve it slightly. Mainly, it will protect the amps from damage or excessive stress. That option is there for a reason and you should use it.
