Ny system may not be as large or sophisticated as others on this forum, but I sure would appreciate some advice on hooking this all up. I just purchased a DMR –ES46V. It is my intent to utilize it for recording from my DVR and to copy VHS tapes. I don’t believe I will ever record directly from cable. Re: Hooking up a HT system

Ok Bob. Let's start with the basics:

I'd go HDMI straight to the TV from the cable box. This will let you watch and hear television with 1 cable. Also, run Optical to your receiver for more serious TV watching with better sound.

SVideo is going to give you your best input to the DMR so run SVideo from the cable box to the DMR. It looks like your DMR will put out SVideo from both the VCR and DVD player so run SVideo from the DMR straight to your television.

I'd also run component video from the DMR straight to the TV for more serious DVD watching.

All that is left is the audio:

DMR - optical to the receiver for DVD, L/R analog for VCR

Hope this helps.
