random sound loss.....why?

the components in my sig are fed by a comcast cable, and were installed two weeks ago by a local cedia shop.......things were fine, and i proceeded to tackle the learning curve...(i'm new to high def home theater)

then suddenly, two days ago, there was no sound when i turned the system on for the first time that day.....but, upon changing channels, it came back on

but then yesterday it happened again, and changing channels didn't bring it back......eventually i played a dvd and THAT did bring it back, and it stayed on for the rest of the evening, even after finishing the movie and going back to cable shows...

i'm convinced that it has nothing to do with anything like loose wiring, being such a newly installed system.....but what else could it be?

(my wife thinks it's due to the sheer complexity of modern equipment, and the likelihood that, given the diversity of manufacturers involved, it might be impossible that ALL of it would be perfectly compatible with each other.....)

Re: random sound loss.....why?

Is this happening only with your Cable box?

If so.. it's the Cable companies poor digital signal.

I'm going to assume that it's probably happening on only digital channels of you cable system and the analog portions are not having the same issues.

Let us know if the above is the case..

Re: random sound loss.....why?

yes, only with the cable box....but i'm not sure about the digital vs. analog channels....i'll have to watch for that......the sound was ok all day yesterday

but i just remembered something......on the second day that the sound was lost on the home theater system, at the same time the bedroom tv was on and the sound was fine there

go figure...

Re: random sound loss.....why?

Depending on your setup the bedroom tv is probably hooked up analog, may have a different or no cable box.

If it keeps happening I would suggest that you call the cable company and start there... at least they can verify your signal strength and they won't charge for coming out if you are reporting a problem with their box.
