no picture getting through ???

I am in the process of trying to install my 1st HT system, connections are as follows; HD Satelitte receiver to Sony home theatre system (HTDDW900), connected with composite video cables and optical audio; HT connected to Optoma projector with HDMI/DVI cable; followed all instructions but only got sound, the image on the screen was only the projector continually searching for an input scource? I then connected my HDMI DVD player with an HDMI cable and got picture but no sound? If I connect the satelitte direct to the projector , I get picture ok (no sound Obviously) Help!!!!!!!!

Re: no picture getting through ???

The Receiver that comes with that HTIB system only switches HDMI Video/audio, Nothing else. It doesn't input the audio to the Receiver either it just passing the audio and video through to the tv. (and you don't have a tv you have a projector) You have to also connect the components Digital audio out to the receiver to get the Audio portion.

The receiver also does not upconvert so what you put in has to be what comes out.

so your Component video input from the satellite is connected to the receiver via component then you have to either connect the component directly to the projector, or ( and there's really no reason if it's your only component video source) go component in and component out to the projector. You will have to change input on the projector or have it autosearch when changing sources

The Receiver neither uses the HDMI Audio Source only passing it on. and does not convert Component to HDMI.

There is no video conversion in that system what so ever.
And the Audio connections (Coax digital or Optical digital) even from the HDMI Source Equipment must also be connected to the receiver in addition to the HDMI connection.

Re: no picture getting through ???

thanks for that, I want to connect a HD Satelitte receiver, a HDMI DVD player and possibly a Playstation to a receiver and then have 1 cable run to the projector, can anyone recommend a reasonably priced system that will do this for me? I am about to box the sony back up and take it for a refund!

I'd sugget the.. Denon 2307ci Retails for $799.00 would give you 2 directv hdmi inputs and upconverts everything else comosite, component to hdmi output. all you would need is one HDMI Cable to your Projector.

That takes care of the amp.. You'll have to decide on the speakers and subwoofer.

The entire package will cost you 3-4 times what your HTIB cost, but you won't be upgrading for many many many years... if ever!...
