cable required for HD?

Do you NEED a HDMI or DVI connection to display a 720p or 1080i signal or it component capable of doing that?

I believe some DVD players can upscale over component. I know that my Scientific Atlanta cable box is hooked via component to my TV for HDTV programming.

If your cable box has either a DVI or HDMI connection and your TV is also equipped with them, then yes, it makes sense to use these "pure digital" connections.
