Subwoofer question

New here just like to say hello to everyone. Before i start my system is as follows.yamaha rx-z1 recever, klipsch rf7s front,2 rc-7 front center rear center,2 rs7 for rear fill, and 1 boston pv1000.My question is this.I was into car audio for quite some time. Now getting into home theater. My sub is great but not enough to keep up with the rf's.I have a jl audio w7v2 and if you are not farmilar with this,it is top of the line.It would blow the pv1000 out of the water.I am a cabinet maker and would like to make this work with this system and use the car amp,a jl 1000 watt mono block. Is ther a way to convert 110v to the 12v that a car runs? This is a 700.00 sub and i dont want it to go to waste. You could not imagine the sound that comes from it.Thanks for any input.

Using the driver is OK, but the amp is going to be a bad idea. A power converter isn't going to be totally inexpensive and may introduce hum to the sub or your system. You can just use a plate amp or monoblock from somewhere like www.partsexpress.com for the sub.

Want to go with a car battery and a car battery charger? No hum problems.

(You must turn off the charger before turning on the amp since the amp will always impose its load on the charger first because all chargers feed a voltage higher than that of the battery, also the charger may introduce hum.)

Very inexpensive.

By the way what is the THD (total harmonic distortion) rating on your subwoofer amp? Although I have not researched car audio recently, many years ago car audio on average had higher distortion figures compared with home stereo.

I find car audio to generally be horrid home audio performers. Everything is gear'd for that auto environment, which is completely opposite of the home audio environment.

In other words, I think it will stink no matter what.
Just my $.02
