I've been slowly making a few posts here in the past couple of months learning and asking questions on setting up a HT and I am now ready to make the dive in. I want to try and also get this setup before thanksgiving hopefully.
Budget: $4,300
What I have:
Philips DVD701 player (I like it had it for a long time but its not progressive scan. Does VCD's but not all region. If I can find one I'd like to be able to do DTS, Dolby, VCDs, and all region's)
Onkyo HTs650 HTIAB (sounds good for the price I paid but then again I am a newbie at this)
Consoles(usual suspects xbox/gc/ps2)
What I am considering buying:
42" Grand WEGA LCD (this would take a large chunk of the budget and I've heard bad things of these yet the one I saw setup looked great /shrugs)
Toshiba - 46HX83 (Everyone seems to love this one. Haven't seen one yet myself but from the specs it seems like a good bang for the buck)
DVD player (as said above I need one that supports all the bells and whistles and if I can get it all region)
Stands (All my gear is being moved into a different room so I need speaker stands and enough space on one maybe even 2 AV racks for my vcr/dvd/consoles/etc.. so this has to be in the budget too doh!)
Mostly for DVDs/Console Games. May look into trying to add my PC into this setup later so I'd like the option down the road. I had the idea at first of leaving my current HTIAB kit in my bed room and just trying to add that to the budget but it sounds good and I can save $$ by using what I have now.
Been posting questions off and on here for a couple of months and lurking trying to learn all I can about HT (ugh headache! lol. Thought if I could build my own little gaming pc HT should be np right? WRONG eep!).
Plan:
46" Toshiba $2,000 + 400ish for 3-4 year warrenty? (Keep flip flopping on if an LCD is worth the extra money or not)
$400ish for AV racks to go on the sides of the TV
$100 speaker stands? Dunno just been looking around at best buy
$150 Liteon LDV-2001 (edited in someone in another thread recommended this one and NewEgg has em. Has all I want and I have bought from new egg before)
$900 Modded Tivo (320 hours) w/ life time subscription
= $4150 (LOL the more I look around the more I keep adding to my list of what I want. Took off 200 of speaker stands since I figured where I could put my front speakers but I added a tivo unit ACK!)
Would really be great to get some input on this setup before I go do all the ordering. Still newbie at all this and advice from the pros here is always good to have.
