Another terminology question

What is 3:2 pulldown? I've seen this listed on the specs of multiple items, both TVs and DVDs.

Here is a good explanation albeit a bit technical.

\"Well ya see, Norm, it\'s like this .......
A herd of buffalo can only move as fast as the slowest buffalo. And when the herd is hunted, it is the slowest and weakest ones at the back that are killed first. This natural selection is good for the herd as a whole, because the general speed and health of the whole group keeps improving by the regular killing of the weakest members. In much the same way, the human brain can only operate as fast as the slowest brain cells. Excessive intake of alcohol, as we know, kills brain cells. But naturally, it attacks the slowest and weakest brain cells first. In this way, regular consumption of beer eliminates the weaker brain cells, making the brain a faster and more efficient machine. That\'s why you always feel smarter after a few beers.\"

Okay. Correct me if I'm wrong here, but from reading that information, it seems that 3:2 pulldown is not really a good thing and it causes picture degredation. If that is the case, why is Pioneer touting the fact that the Elite RPTV "employs 3:2 pulldown for film-based sources, providing optimal picture quality"?? I guess I'm confused by this.

3:2 pulldown is good for film based sources and degrades video based sources. This is because the video based sources are displayed 30 frames per second and film is 24 frames per second. Applying 3:2 pulldown to the film based sources optimizes the 24fps speed of the film to the 30fps of the video display. However, applying 3:2 pulldown to video degrades the video image because video is already optimally displayed at 30fps.
