is my room to small for 7.1? pic links to my set up.

Here are some links to my room, with my speakers installed.
I installed 2 extra speakers for the fun of it. I think my room may be too small for 7.1 as its pretty cluttered. I just wanted to throw them up there for fun.
I would test it myself, but i have such a bad ear for this sort of thing.
I want it to sound good when i have guests over.


Any thoughts? Do you think all the sound will cross itself out and just sound stupid?

I had to take the picture in 2 parts, so try to peice it together with the couch
Keep in mind i will be painting and hiding all the speaker wire!
This system isn't fully installed yet...i just need to know if the room is indeed too small for 7.1.....i have it set up in a weird corner so the back speakers range anywhere from 3-5 feet away from each other.

Dustin,

Your room certainly doesn't seem "too" small for 7.1. Many more people have rooms about that size and are very happy with the sound they achieve. Just make sure you won't have too many reflective walls (celing/floor) parallel to each other. Some work may have to be done about that.

Did you take a look at the pictures?
The speakers are pretty close together.....seems like they may be too close, but i have no choice if i want the 7.1.

Yes I did (had some trouble still to 'reconstruct' the real room). I noticed your "problems". But I stand by my reply. You can have a decent sound if you take care of some pitfalls.

Ha, ha. Sorry, it's not too dramatic. As I said, in a smaller room reflections are your worst enemy, so make sure you dampen them - have a carpet, put some accoustic stuff on parallel walls. Also, try to choose your position carefully between the speakers, calibrate using a calibration DVD. Experiment with the way you point your surrounds. Etc.

I agree with Cees... also for 7.1 you would want a system of course with a center speaker, two fronts, to speakers in the middle basically on opposite sides of where your couch will sit and then your rears all the way in the back behind your couch...
