Sony DVD Direct VRD-MC1, $69.99 @ Best Buy (75% off!!!)

To make way for the new VRD-MC3, Best Buy (B&M only, no website) has put the previous model, the VRD-MC1, on clearance for $69.99. A week ago they were charging $272.99!!! Here is the item: http://www.learningcenter.sony.us/DiscBurners/DVDirect

Keep in mind this is not a traditional DVD recorder. Think of it more as an external DVD burner for your PC that can also directly record through A/V inputs. This is very helpful for converting old VHS tapes, or you can even connect your camcorder directly to it.

For me this is perfect because I own neither a DVD recorder nor PC DVD Burner. I'll have the functionality of both now.

This is such an amazing deal that many stores are already sold out. None of the BBs in the DC area have them, but less busy areas might.

(I had my dad pick up one for me at the Walden Galleria in Buffalo, NY, where they still had another one left -- the nearby Amherst store has been closed for a week due to power outage, so there is a chance they could still be sitting on some.)

OK, I checked this out at my local Bestbuy. They did have some of the MC1's in the back, and they were on clearance, however they were $169.99 not $69.99.

I had to do some asking around at the store to get this information.

It is possible they raised the price, however, I have heard reports of others getting the $169 price, but then other computers in the store showing $69. This actually happened when my dad picked up mine. For some reason the checkout register and inventory computer were giving different prices.

On another forum where I'm discussing this, people were still getting the $69 price as late as last Friday, the 27th.
