Akai 30" Widescreen at Sam's Club

There used to be a thread on this, but it either rolled off or I'm not searching right. I know this thing isn't HD, but at only $400, it's hard to resist looking into it. Has anyone here bought one? Is it at least progressive? Or, if not, does it do the squeeze? What sort of inputs does it have? At that price, it could be a great fill for a little while as the remaining digital connection and other issues are ironed out.

Thanks

It won't do progressive, but it does have 480i component inputs, and from what I've read the DVD picture is good. They say is sucks for 4:3 material though, as the stretch mode is garbage, and I'm not sure it it has a 4:3 mode, though I assume it does.

Will it "squeeze" an image from an anamorphic disc in 16:9 mode?

Anyone know?

Hey JohnRice,

Picked one up Friday. This is one HEAVY TV. Took 2 of us to haul it up 2 flights....ouch. This TV is amazing in 16:9 mode w/anamorphic DVDs. But, my set has some serious geometry issues, as well as some other issues. None anamorphic DVD for example. There is no wau to view them stretched. So you have to set it in 4X3 mode and then there is the proper aspect but you have black space all around the image.

Keep in mind that I just went from a 20" TV so anything was better for me. And I thought the price was pretty darn good.

Search in the display/devices section of the forum for Akai and you find more info.

Stay away from AKAI products as humanely possible. See this thread:

It is not a deal if you cannot get service.
