Sony DVP-NC85H and Samsung TX-S3082WH

Just upgraded to a new DVD player, but now when viewing dvd movies
I lost the zoom on my tv
Sony DVP-NC85H and TV is Samsung TX-S3082WH, slimfit 30" HD

Before on my other dvd player, if the display was too narrow/thin
I could zoom on the TV to expand the display up more to fill the screen.

Now, if I put the 4:3 setting on the dvd player to Full, then the movie
will expand out to the edges but appears stretched, meaning the people
do look fatter.

Otherwise there is a band of black around the movie, not all movies, but
on one today that has an aspect ration of 1:851

thoughts?

My best friend's sister's boyfriend's brother's girlfriend heard from this guy who knows this kid who's going with a girl who saw Ferris pass-out at 31 Flavors last night. I guess it's pretty serious……

Re: Sony DVP-NC85H and Samsung TX-S3082WH

It would appear that the HDMI input is the culprit in this case
as I went back to component input and all was back to normal
plus the lip sync was spot on, where the HDMI input I could not
get it in sync at all, no matter what setting I tried for delay.
SO, I took the HDMI cable back and exchanged it for a good set
of component and audio cables.

Not sure if now I can still get the upconverting from the dvd via
the components or not, may only be through HDMI, but on this
small a screen and being CRT the image was pretty clean anyways...

edited to say found the manual on line for my TV and the component
input will accept 1080i so I should be able to upconvert too...

DVD players only do upscaling (what you're calling upconverting) via HDMI. OTOH, your TV will automatically upscale the video from the DVD player to the TV's native resolution. For example, if the DVD player sends a 480 signal to a TV with a 720 native resolution, the TV automatically scales the signal to 720. It's the only way it can display it.
