VCRs and digital transition

I have a 1995 Magnavox tv, and subscribe to basic cable via Comcast. I don't need to purchase a converter box, and Comcast is taking care of the transition for customers. I get my TV signal with basic cable and run the signal through my VCR.

My question is, will my vcr record and program as normal after the transition? Will I be able to watch one show and tape another, will I be able to program several shows to record when I'm not home?

If Comcast is converting the signal to analog that your TV can process, your VCR will not see any difference either.

Yeah, no change for you. Comcast is actually not taking care of anything. Anyone on cable or satellite is not affected by the transition. Only those who use a conventional antenna are.

The only way you can do all that is if you can record cable programs on your VCR without an outboard cable box.

If you have a separate cable box, the only way you can record one show and watch another is to have two cable boxes, one being dedicated to the VCR.

Having to use a separate cable box for the VCR will nuke the feature of being to record several shows when you're not home. The cable box has to be manually switched to the proper channel before taping begins, unless it has its own built-in timer and controlling functions for the VCR.
