hd audio

I have dish network with hd channels, and on all the hd channels the volume is lower. Is this a common problem or something that can be fixed?

Re: hd audio

It's common and there is really no way to fix it except complaining to the provider. In reality, since DD has a higher dynamic range there should be a difference in the output, with DD being lower. But I don't think this is the case with broadcast, because my HD volume output on cable is all over the place, changing even from commercial to commercial, never mind channel to channel.

How true!

On the BluRay discs the difference will be that the audio is uncompressed which will give it greater dynamic range.

As for variance in volume, that's pretty standard for all forms of television, and commercials are ALWAYS louder than the show you are watching.

Which brings the question: Like AM Stereo, if something has been around but is never heard by anyone, does it really exist at all?

Re: hd audio

ha ha ha ha ha ha....reminds of the (mime) Marcel Marceau album. No, he really did put out an album. Lots of quiet, scuffling sounds, then audience laughter. Priceless.
