surround- tv audio echo

Hello to everyone... I am new to your forum and have found it to be very interesting.

I have a problem I am hoping you can help me with. I recently purchased a 42" plasma tv. When I connect to my surround I am hearing a echo between the surround and the audio from the tv. I have tried using fiber optic from HD satellite box to surround receiver. I have tried component, and also HDMI. I do have a delay on my surround receiver but that did not do it either. Before this I had a 42" rear projection 720HD tv and did not have any problems.

Please help.
thanks

Re: surround- tv audio echo

If you're using surround sound through a receiver, why is the audio on the tv even on? In a HT setup, the tv is used only for video. Turn audio off on tv, is all I'd say to do. Surround will sound better by itself.

Are you trying to use the tv as the center channel? If so, it's not a very good idea IMHO. It doesn't timbre match your other speakers. Too much audio comes out of it. Can't really calibrate to the other speakers......... Just not a good idea.

Re: surround- tv audio echo

I have the sound on the tv on because the tv gets awesome sound but I would also like the surround effect. I have used the same cables and hookups as I did on my older 42" hd rear projection with no problem. The tv audio is behind just enough to set the echo. Even with the surround off there is still a delay from the tv audio to the video.

Re: surround- tv audio echo

You must have pretty good sound onthe TV...most sets don't have sound anywhere near the quality of the amps/speakers/whatever.

Anyway, what order do you see and hear the problem?

is it: TV picture - TV sound - audio system sound
or: TV picutre - audio system - TV audio

does the TV picture match either the audio system or TV sound? Do you have sound from the cable box, through the receiver, then into the TV? or does the TV get both picture and sound straight from the cable box?

And, let us know what TV and what receiver.

Re: surround- tv audio echo

It is tv picture- surround sound- tv sound. The surround sound matches the tv video and the tv sound is a little behind the tv audio.

Tv is Insgnia 42" 720 and I have two receivers I have tried. One is a Pioneer VSX453 and the other Kenwood VR60RS.

Serious HT enthusiasts do not use the TV sound at the same time as the surround sound system. It is definitely the case of "more is not better". A 5.1 soundtrack is carefully mastered for a certain number of channels and throwing more into the mix does not make necessarily make it better, and most times it makes it worse due to the timbre qualities of the TV speakers being very different from the speakers on the surround system.

Personally, with the last two TV sets I've owned I don't know what the speakers sound like because I've never had them turned on.

Re: surround- tv audio echo

Well, the simplest fix really is: don't use the TV speakers.

I don't know where in the audio chain the delay comes from. If you have the "picture" coming from your cable box, and the audio from the cable box to the TV, then I can't imagine how the two would not be synced.

If you have audio from the cable box to your HT receiver, then out and into the TV, you might be getting a delay there. Can't imagine why, though!

Re: surround- tv audio echo

What does not make sense is the audio from the tv does not even match the video from the tv. I spoke to Best Buy where I bought the tv and they are telling me there may be a slight delay in the way the tv is processing the sound.

I find that to be ridiculous, a brand new tv?

thanks to everyone
