Questions about SageTV and home-built PVRs
I am thinking about replacing my 3 Tivo units, with home-built PC PVRs.
The software I’m considering is SageTV.
Some quick details:
I have a roof-mounted OTA antenna.
I’ll likely be switching to Comcast Digital Cable (I’m currently a DirecTV subscriber).
My questions:
1) How well does the TV playback interface work with Sage?
I know how fast and easy it is to navigate through a program with Tivo (:30 skip, etc.). Does Sage work as well?
2) How well does Sage handle high-def?
I’ll be playing back on a 48” 16:9 monitor. But my HDTV does not have digital inputs (HDMI or DVI) so I’ll need to get component video outputs from the PC.
3) Which video card would you recommend?
The PC would be exclusively for home theater use, no gaming.
4) Which dual-record tuner would you suggest?
I’m looking at the Hauppauge WinTV-PVR-500MCE or HDHomeRun.
5) What sound card should I get to receive digital audio from the PC?
6) Will I require a separate cable box for each PC tuner input?
7) If I were to rip my DVD collection to the PC, would I be able to output those files (or others, like YouTube videos) to my home theater using Sage?
