So many choices for a new DVD player
Ok, here is the (sorta) quick story.
This summer my 10 year old TV finally conked out, and I got what I thought was a pretty good deal to fit my budget. I picked up the 30 inch Samsung TX-T3093WH Wide Screen HDTV. And thus far, I am digging HD the most.
The problem lies here. A week after I got the new TV, my DVD/VCR combo deck decided it was time to stop playing DVD's. And then two weeks after that, it decided it was time to start eating VHS tapes. Needless to say, I then decided it was time to throw it in the garbage. Since then, I have been without a VCR and have been playing DVD's on my Playstation 2.
I'm not a rich man by any means, and thusly, have been unable to pay more than $100 for a new dvd player or vcr or whatever up to this point, but recently I came into a little bit of cash and can now spend upwards of 300 (although, I'd certainly rather not spend that much.)
I spent some time searching around, but couldn't seem to find a good machine at a good price, so I decided to ask for help here. This is what I'm looking for.
I'd like to get either a dual deck DVD Recorder/VCR with upscaling or a stand alone DVD recorder with upscaling and a stand alone VCR. Either way, I'd like to spend in the $100-250 range if possible and still come away with a decent machine.
So my questions are as follows. I don't know a lot about upscaling. I have read some ring its praises, and some say its unnecessary. Thoughts based on the TV I have? Is this something I should be looking for in a new DVD recorder? And finally, if it is, can you guys recommend a good machine that fits these characteristics. I'm not looking for awesomeness by any means at that price, but I'd like a good solid quality machine if some exist in that price range. Thanks.
