Filter? What sort of things are you trying to filter?

In my opinion, PCs are best hooked up to stereos with an optical cable. No ground loop problems, no keeping track of multiple volume controls, no EM interference, no fussy minijack cables. Various schemes (Dolby Digital Live, dts) exist to preserve a semblance of surround, too.

Well I notice a hissing static sound when no sound is coming out...Im trying to get that cleaned up with little hassle as possible. I dont have any other kind of audio output on my PC other than normal audio jacks.

new sound card with an optical jack (also called TOSlink). if you don't have a free slot, you can always use an USB sound card.

Sorry I can't be more helpful-- it's been years since I've had to buy one.
The one I use is similar to this

So does this automatically take over for your sound card or what? It hooks up the the PC by usb or to a sound card?....I read on the site, but doesnt really explain so much...

And you say they DO make sound cards with optical outputs?...I might look into that if you think that will clear up my signal...

Sure. Looks like it's got Dolby Digital Live, too.

One more thing-- the card shown looks like it has CD-In, and AUX-In connectors.

I'd advise against using them, and muting them in the mixer-- internal analog cables tend to pick up a lot of noise. In fact-- that might have been part of of your original problem...

Re: PC to A/V reciever filter help please

I am guessing that the hissing is due to inferior final analog pre-amp stages in the sound card. You would have to use old fashioned techniques such as reducing the treble or using a scratch filter (if any) on your amp.
