Re: help for hook up for surround from TV
OK, looking at the manual fr the FX10, it look like you should have at a minimum the Sat Video out Yellow (composite) cable and whatever the Digital Out of the Satellite receiver connected to the Sony.
Depending on your Sat Receiver, you should use Video 1 if you have a Digital Coax or Video 2 if you are using the Optical/Toslink Digital connector.
Make sure the Dolby Digital is turned on in the Sat Setup menu.
Your Sony Sound Field/Surround Sound selector probably should be on A.F.D. (should automatically detect and decode DD signals when present and output the appropriate signal to the speakers).
Tune to a channel and see what sound you get. The sat info screen should tell you if the audio is being sent in DD though not all DD has to have active rear speakers. Best bet would be HBO/Showtime or one of the High Def channels. I was suprised that the PPV Movies I checked during the 5 minute preview didn't seem to putting out DD sound.
If you still aren't getting 5.1 sound, then check your speaker calibrations though if they are OK for your DVDs I assume those don't change for other inputs. Cycle through your Sound Field settings and see if the speakers are at least working. It looks like the Dream System has a few artificial Sound Effect setting that either make all 5 speakers identical or even one where it outputs sound only from the rear speakers -- at least that should tell you that the system is sending signals to all the speakers.
If you still are only getting sound from the front 3 speakers then something is either wrong with your setup or the DD decoder.
