help!!! keep destroying ceiling mount projector

Im using a sony vplhs-60 lcd projector, a yamaha htr6090 receiver, and xbox 360 hd dvd drive. The xbox is connected to the receiver with component inputs and then to the projector through the hdmi input. After about 3 days using this set up i noticed a light purple blob the size of a baseball in the lower corner of the 96" screen. I tried cleaning the lens but it did nothing. no matter if you were playing a game or watching a movie it was always there, so i took it back and got another no more than 2 days later the new projector stopped displaying red and yellow colors. I decided to try to hook up the xbox straight into the component inputs on the back of the projector, thinking that there might be a problem with hdmi connection. It still wouldnt display red or yellow. So then i thought it must be the xbox. I hooked it up to my sony 42" lcd and there was no problem. So now i have returned another projector and am awaiting my 3rd in about a week.
Would the way i have this hooked up be damaging the projectors. I can't understand why it would but i am out of ideas. Is it possible this projector is crap. Ive had vplhs10 and vplhs20 and never had any problems
please help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: help!!! keep destroying ceiling mount projector

It's got nothing to do with your hookups. The first problem sounds like a dust blob on the inside of your projector. The second color problem may be the LCD panels. Are you against a DLP projector for some reason?

That 10,000:1 contrast ratio is a bunch of BS. What is your budget? Do you have any special problems like a low ceiling, etc?

Re: help!!! keep destroying ceiling mount projector

i don't want to spend more than 2200.00. I have standard 8' ceilings.
I really appreciate the fact that your taking time to help me out.
Also would the sharp dt500 be comparable

Re: help!!! keep destroying ceiling mount projector

It sounds like you've been getting bad samples - unless the entire product run is junk, but that seems a trifle unlikely. I've seen LCDs do the blob-thing before, but usually on the blue channel, though once it was magenta.

Loss of red is one thing; loss of yellow is something else. Are you sure that only reds and yellows were gone, and not reds and GREENs that make up yellow? But no, going blue-only is different...

Anyway, the first issue we usually see after a fair amount of time and is caused, in part, by heat on the optical block and damaging the LCDs themselves - but then we're doing architectural installations, where the projector'll be running 8-10 hours/day, non-stop, and it usually shows up somewhere between 1k and 5k hours - not, say, 30!
