If I cancel DISH, do I get to keep the HDDVR?

Hey all,

I'm going to post this in multiple places to make sure it gets view by the right group. I hope that's OK.

My wife and I switched to the DISH Network from Direct TV back in November and got HD. We've since decided that the monthly cost is more than we want to pay, and that we just aren't watching as much TV as we used to, and what we do watch is available Over-The-Air. We are looking into cancelling our satellite service. We are aware that we'll be paying around $200 in penalties, but when we compare that to the over $1000 we'll pay for the next 15 months of our contract, we're willing to bite the bullet (I'm also aware that I was the one who pushed to switch while she was happy with TiVo... but that's another story).

My question to you is that we would like be able to keep our DVR abilities, and I would like to still watch HD (record it too if possible). Our sat unit from DISH is the VIP622 HDDVR. DISH has some lease things that I've never fully understood, so I don't know if I own the box (even though I paid $200 for it). I could call DISH and ask them, but don't want to deal with their "customer service" right now. I just want to know, and make my decision.

Thanks all for you help!
Joey

I am an installer for dish. I believe you will have ot send the 622 back with a pre paid UPS sticker and box they will send you. Anyways the 622 will be of no use to you without subscribing to dish. You wont be able to use it to record anything.
