SPDIF quesiton

Ok, my computer has a sound card with an SPDIF output on it. I bought a cable that says SPDIF on it. But where will this go into my receiver? I have a Denon 3802. Will this go into the DIGITAL IN (coax)?

Or do I need something else?

S/PDIF is an optical connection. You'll have to run optical digital cable from your sound card to the optical digital input on your receiver (not the one that says "coax")

Is the output on your soundcard a mini-S/PDIF, or is it full size? The mini port will look like a headphone jack. If you have the mini port, you'll have to use an adapter on a standard optical cable to plug into your sound card.

hmmm..

I know my optical cables I have running from my CD and DVD player look nothing like the spdif cable I have. They have a different connection on the ends (you can see the red light).

EDIT: OK this is what I have, the rear inputs..here's a picture:

http://www.crutchfield.com/S-FoD9OaJ...&display=L#Tab

Right now I have it in the yellow input next to the other optical inputs on the bottom left. I think it says COAXIAL. If this isnt right, where on here should I put it?

Thank you.

another piece of info:

Now I see there are 2 SPDIFs.

Look at this website:

http://www.ramelectronics.net/html/a...nk_cables.html

Mine looks like the RCA cable on the left. Will this plug into the bottom left of my receiver (the yellow input)?

That's the right one. As you've discovered, S/PDIF (or, more commonly, "digital") connections come in two varieties, coaxial and optical.

Doh, you're right. I was thinking S/PDIF was another name for Toslink, which is the optical digital interface.
