"Digital" cable is not necessarily HD cable. Most cable companies offer a digital cable package that has the lower 100 or so channels analog and anything above digitally encoded. They issue you a "Digital Cable" box to decode these standard definition signals. It usually includes stuff like an onscreen guide, on-demand, etc., but no HD. To get HD, you have to get an HD box. This usually includes all the functionality of the "Digital" box, but adds HD decoding.
So the types from analog to HD are:
Analog Cable Box
Digital Cable Box
HD cable Box
