What if I buy a DISH 811 reciever outside of Dish Network?

Can I just call up and activate it? Is that necessary? Anyone done this?

I'd like to upgrade from the 301 to the 811 in order to take advantage of the HD receiver for an OTA antenna. I do not want to change my subscription package with Dish Network, however.

Any tips? Can this be done?

Thank you.

Call them up, can't hurt

Bernie, I have the 811 but I'm not sure about your question.
Go to Satelliteguys.us, then to the Dish Network forum. Someone there will know.

Just to close this issue, it does work. I got the reciever on ebay, hooked it up, called Dish, they activated it and I'm getting OTA HDTV with no HD fees to Dish.
