Samsung DVD-HD841
Does anyone who owns this have a problem with certain discs not outputting a picture? My wife and I sat down to watch the Friday The 13th boxed set discs and I could not get a picture, sound but no picture. I would try other discs and they would play fine.

I have it hooked up through the DVI input on a Mitsubishi 65" HDTV rear projection. I have not had problems with any other discs, but the Friday The 13th Discs. The discs played fine through the component video output when I later tested it, but they would not give any type of picture through the DVI hookup.

Now that is really bizzare! The only disc mine has stuttered on video wise was "WindTalkers" and that was because I bought it used and was pretty scratched up. It plays fine on my DVD recorder, but my Sammy has problems with chapter 14. And that was on all of the discs in the box set? Hmm, maybe something is up with the HDCP on the TV. How old is your set? That is the only reason I can think of that they would not display a picture. But even that doesn't make a whole lot of sense. My TV doesn't support 720P or 768P, just 1080i and 480P so when I try to play them in the first two resolutions, I get one picture that is split into 3 small thin strips and on the second I get snow.

I purchased the tv last Christmas and it is still in production. I just purchased this player and have watched about 15 movies on it, but the entire boxed set of the Friday The 13th movies will not output a picture - I get sound, but no picture. I am use 1080i and like I said have had no problems with the other movies I've tried. Maybe I should just exchange the player and see if that does the trick.

Don't discount the fact that it could be the discs. I would not take the player back until I tested another set of the discs that are giving you problems. I have played at least 50 discs on my Sammy with only the one problem mentioned in my previous post.

I'm tempted to take this one and just exchange it and see how it reacts to the same discs then at least I can put my mind at ease. I've been very happy with the other discs that I've watched on it and it is a huge difference from what was my main player a Pioneer Elite DV-45A.

Yeah, I hear ya. Don't give up on the player though, I love mine. Good luck.

Well I exchanged the dvd player and got the new one hooked up and lo and behold the same problems with the same discs. Other discs play great with no problems. I tried a DVD Audio disc Frank Zappa - Halloween and I couldn't get the menus to come up - I got the same response as I did with the Friday The 13th movies. A blank white flashing screen, but did have sound. I'm not sure where to go from here. I guess I'll use it with the movies that work with it and continue use of the Pioneer Elite DV-45A as a SACD / DVD Audio unit and with movies that aren't compatible with the player (hopefully there won't be many more).

I did have problems with it playing DVR. I found out just to leave the disc in the player and eventually it loads. I exchanged the first one but it still did the same thing.
