Pioneer DV578A-S
After trying the Toshiba and Sony 5-disc DVD players available at BB (and hating both of them), I'm giving up on a multi-disc changer and trying the Pioneer DV578A-S. It seems to play "all the formats" and since I've got a Pioneer Elite reciever I'm keeping things "in the family".
The problem is that on a few scenes in the first movies I've tried on it, there's a kind of stuttering. I don't know the technical term. It's almost like it can't keep up with the bitrate, but since these are DVD-Rs and have bitrates around 5 Mbps, I don't know why that would be the problem. It could be that the player is having trouble reading the discs ... but there's no blockiness, dropouts, or skipping. Just the stuttering. For example, if someone is walking across the screen, their motion is fluid in chunks of about one second, with jumps each second.
I've only watched a couple movies on DVD-R, so I'm going to give it some time and try different media on it (meaning store-bought DVDs and more DVD-Rs of different brands). Just wondering if you guys have this figured out already from a previous post or experience.
