iPod Photo

I was wondering what was going to be announced today and I'm kind of "Eh, what else ya got?" Although the U2 iPod is kind of cool looking, but neither seems like a must have. Of course I'm not an iPod owner either so that might color my reaction. Regarding the photo model, I just don't see much of a practical purpose for it other than it's (another) high capacity storage device.

Since I have no photos on my Mac other than porn, The iPod-photo is nothing I need. But my god that U2 iPod special edition looks freakin' sweet! If only I had $349 kicking around to spend on a new iPod (my 10Gig 3G is quickly running-out of room).

Been sitting on the fence to get an iPod for the past year. Already have a G5 Dual 2.0 w/ my complete CD collection ripped to AAC 192. Saw the new iPods today. Thought the U2 iPod's ok, not great (matter of taste of course). The iPod Photo is over priced for the color screen. People who drool over the 15 hour battery life obviously never heard of 3rd party batteries for iPods. Looks like I'll be getting a 4G 20GB w/ SendStation's PocketDock, hook it up to the Super Mini Moy that's coming, and listen w/ the AT A900. Sweetness.

My main problem with the iPod photo is that you have to buy a seperate thingy to load photos directly from the camera. To me that will be the killer app for long trips. Looking at the pictures is not nearly so important.

I also would have settled for a $499 60GB regular music iPod. Oh well, I got my 40 GB gen 4 iPod just 3 months ago -- I can wait -- I've got a whole 1.7GB space free... Let's face, what I really need is a 80GB iPod -- I've yet to encode to AAC 60% of my CD collection.

I also like the idea of a 60GB regular music iPod, although I'm sure they're already developing the next gen of regular and photo iPods.

Are any current iPod owners compelled to upgrade? The more I learn about it the more I think this particular model will flop.
