HELP with TiVo-DVD recorder/cable problem

Folks-

A friend in the Pittsburgh area recently asked me for some suggestions in replacing his dying DVD player. Knowing how much he & his wife use & enjoy their first generation TiVo, I suggested the Pioneed 810H as a way to replace two units in his rack with one. Here is his reply to the suggestion:

"Okay, good idea BUT Comcast in this area uses a particular model cable
box that it is known to interfere with remote signals with TiVo, which
makes using TiVo almost impossible (you want TiVo to be switching
channels, but the emitter from the TiVo remote causes the cable box to
'freeze' and so the switching doesn't happen accurately all the time).
This has the unfortunate repercussion of forcing us to use Comcast's
DVR box, which they happily provide us for an additional $10 per month.
Intentional? You decide. It is a widely known incompatibility, and
our checking on the Internet provided no easy solution."

Anyone have experience with this problem and/or a work-around?

ALSO: would like to suggest an ISF calibrator for them. Appreciate a name of someone who services monitors in the western PA region.

Thanks!

Tivo - Try the Tivo Community. I go there every day and never heard about any problems with a particular company's cable box. They all have their quirks but every time someone has posted a solution.

ISF - Gregg Lowen (he's the moderator of the Display section here).
