I just leave the DVB 318 on at 1080i at all times.

No point really in doing otherwise with it, imho.

My instinct tells me that HDDVD will take off slowly, nothing like dvd did, and that it will capture a very small percentage of the market. By the time it is ready to catch on, something better will come along. So it may not be too dissimilar from laserdisk. I don't think upscaling dvd players will have too much of an impact on hddvd not taking off. Those of us that are willing to buy an upscaling dvd player are looking for the incremental increase in video quality and would probably also invest in hddvd when that comes out.

I'll be sticking with my DVB318 probably for about 5 years if it holds out.

Yeah, when HD-DVD comes out, I will be buying only the essentials (Star Wars, Aliens, LOTR, Die Hard Trilogies, ect) and maybe SLOWLY buy HD-DVDs of other movies. But replacing my 150+ DVD collection isn't cost-effective.

Man, I cannot WAIT to be watching movies like AOTC and ROTK on a 46" WS TV in pseudo-1080i! It is consuming me...

Any HD-DVD player needs to be backwards compatible without question.

I'll be damned if I am going to rebuy a whole collection again like the VCR to DVD transistion again.

You can do it right now with a HTPC Andrew.

I need to apologize to Don Berg, my last post was a bit over the line.

I've said it before, different people have different needs from a dvd player and should choose accordingly. For Don and no doubt quit a few others, the XP30 is the perfect player, but I think he sometimes forgets that other people with other priorities may be better served by something else, and this gets a bit irritating at times. It's no excuse for the sarcastic and nasty tone of my last post.

As for upconverting players delaying HD-DVD, I hope not. I've played some really well mastered dvds on the Zenith that have looked actually better than the average HD movie off HBO-HD on DirecTV, specifically I ran Below, a sorta Submarine/ghost movie directed by the guy who made Pitch Black, and The Hulk which is another title known for it's excellent pq. Of course DirecTV is compressing HD a bit, and the pq on these movies from this player does not approach the video based HD material on Discovery HD or HDNet.

My main concern is that I don't have any other HD connection on my tv other than component video and am very much worried that any upcoming HD-DVD player will not output HD scanrates via component.

The Zenith is the first Known name upconverting player sold in the US with HD scanrates available via component, which may be in violation of the dvd consortium's agreement with the studios, but if enough are sold it may ease Hollywood's fears and let us have HD DVD players that will work with the hundreds of thousands of HD capable sets that only have component inputs.

Steve S.
I prefer not to push the subwoofers until they\'re properly run in.

I'd think HDMI will be the standard when HD0-DVD comes out. Maybe DVI, but probably HDMI at this point. Just heresay though.

Is this DVI connector the same we can find on newest PC video cards and LCD monitors?
