Comments on Liquid Video HTIB

Hi,
Circuit City has an HTIB made by Liquid Video. It's a 500-W, 5-Disc P-Scan system. Does anyone have any kind of input on this system?
Thanks.

John, please ask about specific HTiB models here in A/V Sources. The Basics area is for general discussion at the beginner level, not specific model recommendations.

Though I know nothing about this particular make or model of HTiB I can assure you, however, that it is not capable of putting out "500 watts" per channel.

John,
From reading the specs at CC's website you can see that the system is rated 80w per channel at a whopping 10% distortion. An acceptable distortion figure would be more in the neighborhood of .7% for an entry level receiver to .07% or less for a higher end one with the same power rating. Basically this thing amounts to a 5 speaker clock radio as far as quality of the amplification and speakers.

There are a lot of no-name htibs on the market at the sub-$300 price point that include a dvd player. None of them is really worth considering except possibly for a child's bedroom.

If you are starting from scratch, you can get decent sound from an htib, but it's gonna cost closer to $500 or so. The Onkyo setup without dvd player at CC is very creditable, but some of the Panasonics or Sonys in the $400 range may be all you need.

Steve S.
I prefer not to push the subwoofers until they\'re properly run in.
