How can I install iDVD '06 with iDVD '08 already installed?

There seems to be a glitch in iDVD '08 that is causing my movie
projects to burn with audio going out of sync towards the ending.

I found this is a common glitch most likely attributed to the
camcorder being set at factory default 12 bit audio instead of
16 bit. This causes audio burned to iDVD to drift out slowly.

It was suggested to use iDVD '06.

Problem is, I can't install it. Tried installing it with iDVD '08
on my drive hoping it would go to its own folder. Nope. What it
did was try to merge itself with the existing iDVD and that program
then stopped working.

Next, I tried to use APP ZAPPER to remove just iDVD '08 in hopes
of being able to do a clean install of iDVD '06. That did not work.
iDVD '06 installed but would not launch.

Even tried to install iLife '06 to my external drive to work off that.
The installer would not let me install to the external.

So....

Any ideas how to install iLife '06 in a Leopard computer that
has iLife '08 installed and be able to use the '06 version of iDVD?

Jeremy,

I very much appreciate you sending me this link. However....

Unless you know differently, I have a feeling it will install itself
right on top of the '08 version and not function.

Do you know if this will install itself in its own folder in Applications?

Update,

That version will not install over the newer.

Thank you anyway, Jeremy.

Have you tried (1) removing iDVD, (2) installing iDVD '06, and then (3) installing the iDVD 6.0.4 patch over top of iDVD '06?

Hey Thomas!

I went as far as removing iDVD and installing iDVD '06. Did
not install the patch. However, it is being widely reported on
other forums and through my own experience that you can't
put iDVD '06 on Leopard after '08 is installed even if you remove
all the tracer files from the library.

If you want them both on one disk, and working in Leopard, I expect that you'll need to manually rename the one you (re-)install first.

There is another option. It's ugly -- but if you need to keep both versions of iDVD around badly enough, it might be worth considering.

1. Delete all traces of iDVD from your main hard disk. Reinstall iDVD '08.
2. Get a spare hard disk or partition that is large enough to hold Leopard and iLife '06.
3. Erase it.
4. Install Leopard on it.
5. Install iLife '06 on it.
6. Install the patch for iLife '06 and Leopard.

Thomas,

Appreciate the advice -- it would work -- but as noted, it is
just way too messy.

Going to try to address the problem by getting a letter published
in MacWorld. I figure if I can get attention to the software bug
perhaps Apple will address it.
