Mac... 2 AVI Files Need Help

Guys,
I have 2 AVI files, that look like they have Quicktime Icons... They play the video fine, but no audio?? What could this be??

I tried downloading the Divx for mac. Installed it, and they also play in there? But no audio...

Can anyone point me in the right direction??

Have you installed Flip4Mac? It seems to handle AVI files fine.

Re: Mac... 2 AVI Files Need Help

Steve,
Tried it, no go... I installed the WMV. That is correct? Still no audio... Now it does open what looks to be quicktime when I click on the WMV icon...

????

Re: Mac... 2 AVI Files Need Help

MOV and AVI are both container formats, which support a variety of video and audio codecs; unlike MPG and WMV, which says something about the type. (All AVIs should have a QuickTime icon, because that's the app that will try to play them. Installing Flip4Mac does the same for WMV.)

In the QuickTime Player, under the Window menu is Show Movie Info. The Movie Info window has a Format entry. What does it say?

Re: Mac... 2 AVI Files Need Help

Is it actually

DivX 6.0, somenumber x somenumber, Millions
something Stereo 48.000 kHz

What's the "something" before Stereo? The fact that it says Stereo and the sample rate would indicate that it recognizes the sound format. So that leaves the usual suspects: check the volume, do other files play with sound, etc.

D/L VLC player from www.videolan.org. Use VLC to play back instead of QT.
