Credit card payments and a new card

I pay some of my utility bills and whatnow with my credit card automatically via a "bill pay" like system. I just got a new credit card even though my old one isn't expiring til like 3 years from now due to some problem with the magnetic strip. The account number is the same but the expiration date is now april instead of march and the CCV number is different. Do I have to change all my automatic payments because the account number has not changed? And now my expiration date is actually after what every company has by 1 month...

You should contact your payees and make the necessary changes to your auto-payments, or they could be rejected. If that happens, you may be stuck with a ding on your credit report, and late fees, etc.

Re: Credit card payments and a new card

Usually the bank will keep both accounts active for a period of time, so charges could be placed against either one (as long as you did not cancel the first card because it was compromised). Eventually, though, charges will be rejected against your old card, so you need to change any automatic payments.

Citibank changed my actual account number last year, and it wasn't until a few weeks ago that I could no longer access the old account electronically via Quicken for account updates. I had charges hit both cards for a few months as I changed over use with some automated payments.
