Massachusetts Parents with Kids Under 8?

Hey Guys,
I've got about three weeks seperating me from my bachelor's of science in print journalism, and my capstone course has me doing a series of articles on roads and highway matters. I'm currently in the middle of an article with a Wednesday deadline on the recently passed bill requiring children younger than 8 and shorter than 57 inches to ride in a booster seat, and I'd like to get the pespective of a parent that will be affected by the law. Being an out of state resident, the only parents I know are New Yorkers.
If anyone is interested in answering a couple questions, pop me an email at alenhardt[at]gmail.com or Adam_Lenhardt[at]emerson.edu. If you just want to comment generically, feel free to respond to this thread.
I don't normally like to use the HTF like this, but it's the only place I can think of to turn.

Thanks in advance!

Re: Massachusetts Parents with Kids Under 8?

Oregon passed the same law last year. I'm not a parent, but I have a niece who is six. I don't perceive it to be a big hassle - it's just a matter of moving the seat if she isn't riding in her parents' car, and the seat is not as difficult to put in as the ones designed for infants. From a purely aesthetic standpoint, it looks a little ridiculous for her to be sitting in a booster seat, but the trade off is worth it. I haven't really heard her parents or my parents complain about it.

Thanks for your input, Cameron!

Joey: I registered and posted a thread in the "In the New" forum of your website. I was a little wary of registering since the site is for dads only; will that be a problem? Either way, thanks for your help.

You might want to interview some 8 year olds. I know that my kids didn't want anything to do with booster seats once they started school.

Hey, No wonder the water don't work! This pipe is full of wires!!

It was a pleasure meeting you today, David! Thanks again for your help.
I talked to AAA's people earlier this afternoon and will probably run over to the state house tomorrow during my break, but I got everything I need for the story now.

That's a really good idea. If it were more of a feature-y piece, I definitely would.

It's such a surreal subject matter for me, since I remember riding in the front seat with no booster seat when I was four or five. Of course, there were no air bags then either.
